Sligo New Music 2008

The Model :: Niland in Sligo is undergoing redevelopment this year so the annual sligo New Music Festival which takes place in the Black Box was celebrated with a one day event in spaces around Sligo. The day continues the experimentation with new spaces for music taking place in Sligo. It featureed the music of avant-pop Dutch composer Jacob TV (see video below) and memorable performances by the renowned Amstel quartet, Irish pianist Maria McGarry and saxophonist Cathal Roche.

Jacob TV, I was like wow

Crash Originals

Crash Originals: Production Manager – The Crash Originals concert featured Crash Ensemble performing the works written specifically for them by composers of renown such as Terry Riley, Gerald Barry, David Lang, Kevin Volans and the wonderful Grá and Bás by Donnacha Dennehy. Donnacha kept the audience entertained during technical onstage difficulties with, ahem, unusual, interviews with the featured composers. One moment that stuck with the audiences was Donnacha questioning David Lang about his favourite drink (no pretense at analysis of the music or such overrated questions!). It took place during the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers, which was hosted in 2008 by Lyric fm.

Sligo New Music Festival

Sligo New Music Festival, Project Manager – The festival featured the works and performances of musicians who have had an association with Spain; either born and living in Spain or finding artistic inspiration in the music of Spain with amazing performances from the intense Trio Arbos and Ireland’s own contemporary accordianist Dermot Dunne (with his collection of eyewatering shirts!) The incomparible Model Arts and Niland Gallery host the annual Sligo New Music Festival.

RTÉ Living Music Festival 2008

RTÉ Living Music Festival 2008 – Venue Manager, Christchurch Cathedral – With the grandmaster himself in attendance the 2008 festival was a complete Arvo-fest. His music was perfectly complemented in the acoustic surrounds of Christchurch. The audiences at the sell out performances were wooed with his deceptively difficult music - the minimalism masks its complexity.
