Abraxas 2009

Irish composer Brian Ledwidge Flynn has set himself the remarkable task of writing a piece of music a day for each day of 2009, totally 365 short works by 31 December. Under the title Abraxas the works are posted daily to Flynn’s blog and usually last between 30 and 90 seconds.

The creative output required by the project seems daunting (I can’t manage to post to my blog every day and can barely imagine creating a piece every day to blog about) but Flynn says it is his experience that to “impose limitations on yourself creates momentum” and that the project has prompted creativity “as opposed to curbing production”. The project has garnered national and international attention (from random bodies such as Russian online station TV Kultura).

Today is Day 101 of 2009 (who knew?). I’ll be keeping an eye on the next 264…
